Pebrero 8, 2010

When we talk about linguistics, we’re talking about a very big concept or idea. Linguistics, which is the scientific study of language, is very vague. It generally encompasses different fields or disciplines. Since language is inevitable in all human interactions, it has many practical applications in different fields of study.

Knowledge regarding on language or the field, linguistics itself is very important. There are some organizations in the Philippines that deals on language and linguistics, The Linguistic Society of the Philippines and Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino. These organizations prove that there is a need to study, develop, and understand the language in our own setting.

Linguistic Society of the Philippines (LSP) has an official publication named “Philippine Journal of Linguistics”. This journal comes out yearly in June and December. It publishes original studies in descriptive, comparative, historical, and areal linguistics. Its primary interest deals with linguistic theory but it also publishes papers on application of theory to certain disciplines like sociolinguistics, psycholinguistics, anthropological linguistics, etc.

Philippine e-journals has uploaded this journal, Philippine Journal of Linguistics to its website so it can be viewed online. It will be beneficial to researchers, students, scholars, and specially to linguists. Just check out this website http://ejournals.ph/index.php/PJL to view the articles and contents in the said journal. Articles inside this journal are very interesting and really informative.
